Animal Quackers
A children’s picture book from possibly Northern Ireland’s newest publishing company. Aimed at the pre-school market, the eponymous Dear Duckies are five characters (with no similarities to the Spice Girls, despite their monikers!), each with their own personality and interests.
Sporty, Clever, Hungry, Baby and Lively take a trip to the zoo in this first book, and so will your children. The illustrations are clearly presented, with the bright colours and large images making the story easy to follow. Younger readers will not only be kept interested by the colourful settings and cute characters; the author also aims to balance the entertaining and the educational. He adds counting games and animal puzzles to maintain any kid’s interest. Dear Duckies is great start to what is sure to be an ongoing series, in which we will hopefully see further adventures of Sporty, Clever, Hungry, Baby and Lively Duck. Well worth a look.
