About Clooney Community Vision

Clooney Community Vision

Clooney Estate Residents Association was the lead partner in the delivery of this project.

Clooney Estate is a relatively small estate of around 280 houses and is a recognized pocket of deprivation within the Ebrington ward. Clooney is proud to be the only mixed Housing Executive estate in the city.

Clooney Estate Residents Association was formed in the area in June 2003 and has been instrumental in supporting the development and regeneration of the area and providing a voice for the local people.

Adele Roulston, Project Officer for Clooney Estate Residents Association said, “This was the first opportunity for Clooney to participate in a creative project of this scale. Seeing our community through the lens of a camera highlighted the physical environment and attitudes that familiarity had made almost invisible. Part of the process challenged the perceptions of how residents see the area and then how it actually looked on film. This process created a great opportunity for debate around issues of identity and perception. The process was also a successful tool to communicate the shared issues between residents irrespective of age or cultural background."

About the Programme

The Arts and Regeneration programme is a partnership programme funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The Arts and Regeneration programme is aimed at building links with local authorities and local communities and is seen as an initiative from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland aimed at targeting social need. The Arts and Regeneration's primary purpose is to address issues of physical renewal within Neighbourhood Renewal Areas. Alongside Civic Regeneration it is important to have a parallel regeneration process within neighbourhoods of need. The Arts and Regeneration programme aims to complement and enhance the development of regeneration in the participating areas each year.
